Basics of Organic Baby Skincare

Taking care of your baby's skin is exceptionally important. There are a number of skin conditions that can occur within infants that can be easily prevented with a bit of care and attention to your baby's skin. With the right ingredients and components, you can prevent a number of skin problems and can help your child with healthy, beautiful skin.

Common Skin Conditions

There are some relatively common skin conditions that a baby may experience. These general conditions typically do not need to be treated unless they enter levels of severity, in which case a visit to the family doctor would be beneficial. Some common skin conditions include:

Baby acne - a red rash on the face that disappears over time and has no harmful effects.

Erythema toxicum - a common, splotchy rash that affects newborns. This rash tends to come and go on various parts of the body and will gradually disappear. There is no treatment for this.

Mongolian spots - flat birthmarks that can be deep brown or gray. They may appear to look like bruises and are often found on the buttocks or lower back. These are usually present at birth and tend to fade as the child grows older.

Vernix - a greasy white substance that coats the baby's skin in the uterus and offers protection. Some babies are born with a lot of vernix still on their skin, but it can be washed or wiped off. Vernix is harmless.

Milia - tiny whiteheads that typically appear on the baby's face. These are common and go away with time. They are harmless.

If any of these symptoms or conditions appears to be severe or more complicated than normal, visit your pediatrician without delay and have your child examined. It is always better to be safe than sorry when dealing with the health of your infant.

Diaper Rash

Organic baby skincare can aid in the prevention of many common skin conditions and many more serious conditions, too. One such serious skin condition is diaper rash. Diaper rash is also known as dermatitis and is caused by wet or soiled diapers. As the urine or stool irritates the baby's skin, it becomes red and tender.

Candida diaper rash is a type of rash that typically appears around the genitals or the buttocks. This rash is rather serious and should be treated by a trained dermatologist or pediatrician with an anti-fungal cream and topical solution. There are organic baby skincare options available to treat Candida diaper rash that can be provided upon request.

Parents can do a number of things to prevent diaper rash. Changing the baby's diaper often is, by and large, the most important thing a parent can do. Allow the baby's skin to dry after changing the diaper; don't just move your infant from diaper to diaper without allowing the skin to breathe. When changing the diaper, wash and clean the area with a mild organic soap and warm water. Apply petroleum jelly or other organic options to the area to protect and lubricate it. With proper care and attention, diaper rash can be avoided.
